Think Like A Leader

I love the poster on the left because it illustrates the subtle differences in thought that make leaders stand out and succeed. There are many areas of leadership we can talk about but tonight I want to share a little thought about thinking like a leader because I believe it all starts with the right mindset. One of my mentors taught me that when a baby elephant is born into captivity the trainers drive a solid wood stake deep into the ground so that it is firm and immovable. They will then take a heavy chain and secure the baby elephant’s leg to the stake. The baby elephant will pull, and pull, and tug with all its might trying to break free but to no avail. Change Your Thinking

For the majority of people in the world, success is viewed as luck, or being at the right place at the right time. They never take into consideration that you also need to be the right person at the right place at the right time. To most, success is usually determined by external circumstances. But true success is only created internally. Author Sterling W Sill once said, “One of the greatest paradoxes of life is that almost everyone wants to improve his circumstances, but almost no one wants to improve himself. And yet our personal preparation is the key to all success.” Unsuccessful people blame external circumstances; successful people internalize responsibility for their success. This represents a new way of thinking; a paradigm shift that is necessary for your progress.
